Coffee Shop

On Earth Sunday 2002 Christians for the Earth opened the first Coffee Shop between services as well as after second service. The Coffee Shop is now open the first Sunday of every month, and the products are available throughout the week in the church office. The Coffee Shop ministry has been successful in raising awareness about trade practices and agricultural issues that affect the environment and are excited to report that the products we sell are fairly traded and organically shade-grown (to prevent further destruction of the rain forests).

We purchase our coffees, teas, cocoa, chocolate bars and other products through the Interfaith program of Equal Exchange. Both the Presbyterian Church and the Methodist Church support this program which is utilized by over 1000 congregations throughout the country.

A main goal of the Coffee Shop ministry was to be able to give gift baskets to new members when they join Federated. We have made enough profit on the coffee and other products to be able to provide the gift basket ministry these last six years. We also make gift baskets on order.

At the Coffee Shop we also sell canvass tote bags with the Christians for the Earth logo and ceramic mugs with a sketch of the church. We were able to purchase these through a Huncilman grant, and we use the proceeds from the sale of these items for future greening projects around the church.

Along with all these items, we have introduced bumper stickers! We have a variety of ones with sayings such as “Insatiable is Not Sustainable” and our Christians for the Earth slogan “Mindful Choices for the Environment Are Spiritual Acts”. We also have bumper stickers with a sketch of the church and our name with the caption “Gathering Inclusively since 1916”.

This year we have new workers helping out at the coffee shop - Whitney Cunningham, Jennifer Cunningham-Mott and family, Marie Zalenka, Shannon Cary, Nita Paden and Misty Clark.
